The flat surfaces on either end make it pretty easy to get plaque off your dog's teeth. We've learned that the pick style doesn't work as well (at least for us), and the flat surface of the scaler is ideal. The edges of the scaler are sharp, so you have to be careful about that (but that's the case with any metal dental tool). It's very well-made, has a nice heft to it without being heavy, and doesn't chip or flake. The sleeve for storage is a nice touch. It's a fairly heavy sleeve and provides some protection from sharp edges. Nice product. And the seller we bought from was GREAT!
